DIY: No-Sew Velvet Bun Headband
On the ninth day of Craftsmas our DIY will be:
a no-sew bun headband,
knit wire earrings (here!),
I have seen little baby girls all over my news feed lately rocking these adorable velvet bow headband/turbans and never have I ever seen anything cuter. And like I always say: if it’s good enough for a baby, it’s good enough for me. So I decided to figure out how to make one for adults whose fashion favors the whimsical- but I wanted to do it without sewing. I know a lot of people don’t sew because they don’t have the supplies or don’t know how, and I really wanted to make this do-able for everyone. So after lots of twisting of velvet and wringing of hands, I figured it out. The secret ingredient: 1 hair tie.
tlo pro-tip: For a more secure headband, you could absolutely use a needle and thread instead of a hair tie to secure the bun, hide the end, or even make a separate bun and headband and sew them together. But so far the easy version has actually held up quite well and I haven’t had any issues.
You’ll need:
1/4 yard velvet with some stretch to it
1 hair tie
scissors
Can you believe that’s it?
How to make headband:
This one is best served with a video demonstration. Hope this helps! And as always, remember: I am not a videographer, and the camera adds 12 chins.
Oh! And there’s a special guest appearance by my very enthused husband in this one so keep an eye out for that cutie. He loves when I video craft tutorials while he’s putting all of the groceries away.
Me: I’m going to make a video, can you keep it down while you do all that house work?
Noah: *major side-eye*
I think these are so fun. I wore mine today and was stopped by 5 people asking about it. Could it be the Tickle-Me-Elmo of 2018? I’m not ruling it out.
Toodles! tlo
