Thrifty Thursday: Dotted Floral Dress
Remember how I boldly declared that fun green wrap dress my favorite thrift find of all time? Well that was before Dottie came into my life.
I have long had a penchant for dots of all kinds: polka, dalmatian, leopard- I’m really an equal opportunity dot lover. This gem caught my eye and frankly, at $7, it wouldn’t have mattered if it was 14 sizes too big or too small- it was going home with me. But wouldn’t you know- it fit perfectly.
I’d like to take a moment to put it out there that I kiss a lot of proverbial frogs in my quest for fun clothing at thrift stores. I leave empty handed a lot. I buy things that need to be mended or re-sized a lot. The main reason I find fun stuff is that I go look- a lot. It’s a hobby and feels like treasure hunting which is the only reason I do it so much- to have fun! I understand this is not normal- that’s OK! I would never claim to be.
The Outfit
Brand: Rickie Freeman for Teri Jon (quite a mouthful!)
I wasn’t familiar with this brand before, but it’s still in production and new clothes sell at Lord and Taylor, Bloomingdale’s, Neiman, Nordstrom, etc. for hundreds of dollars. We’re talking $300-$500. Even the vintage stuff sells for over $100 in many cases on Poshmark, eBay, and Etsy. And obviously I wants them allllllll.
Cost: $7
Vintage: 1980’s, dontcha think?
Time: Dry clean only? I laugh in the face of DCO. I took a walk on the wild side and gave it a quick wash, hung it to dry, and gave it a fluff in the drier. I didn’t even have to iron it!! That’s when you know it’s true love.
Time to put on: 5-7 minutes because the back BUTTONS up. I know that zippers existed in the 80’s, because I existed in the 80’s. I was there, and there were zippers.
Accessories:
Calvin Klein shoes on sale at DSW with Hobby Lobby clip on poms
Renegade Cluster bracelet by Stella and Dot (one of my newest obsessions)
The glammest earrings OF. ALL. TIME. that my sweet sis got me for my bday (Date Night Drop Earrings by BaubleBar).
When I found these online I misjudged their size by a factor of 2 thinking they were small rhinestones and about 2” long… but now that I have them they are exactly the right amount of fun! Be warned, though- they’re heavy little mofos.
New fave all the way… at least until my next trip to Goodwill. ;)
