Thrifty Thursday: Velvet Maxi Skirt

Remember that time we talked about how my style is similar to that of a Civil War era American Girl doll?

Yeah.

I found the coolest old dress 2 years ago at a thrift store in Houston, but the top was a little too snug. So I cut the top out of the dress and made it into a skirt! The skirt has the most unique waistband and I love it so very much, especially paired with this light pink vintage sweater. I’m digging the clash trend (navy and black, pink and red), and thought this was such a fun combo.

In related news, the world the men I work with are simply not ready for my personal flare.

Male co-worker: *walks by staring*

Me: Just say it.

Male co-worker: It’s… I… what are you wearing?

Me: This outfit is bad ass.

Male co-worker: Those poky things look like they should have… straps attached to them.

Me: Don’t hate me cuz you ain’t me. *continues rocking outfit*

But I had 4 (FOUR) total strangers stop me in Target to compliment me on this getup, so anonymous male co-worker can shove it.

No outfit is complete without my DIY coffee cozy!

The outfit:

Skirt: vintage dress-turned-skirt from thrift store (I’ve had this for years, so by the sunk cost fallacy, that makes it free, right?). I have no idea how old it is because it has no tags or labels and appears to be made by hand.

Top: vintage Susan Bristol sweater from Goodwill (1980’s)

Shoes: Anne Taylor

Earrings: Kendra Scott

Comfort level: couldn’t walk very well without holding skirt up. Stairs proved particularly tricky. In other words: I won’t be winning any track and field events in this baby, but whatever. I wasn’t made for speed.

Toodles! tlo
